We are excited about the abundance of talent that is set to take the field in January, with the Premier Clubs announcing their squads for the updated Marg Jennings Cup competition.
Premier Cricket’s new-look player pathway has seen a change to the Marg Jennings Cup competition.
“The Marg Jennings Cup will provide a fantastic opportunity for players to showcase their skills and test themselves against other players within the same age group, whilst also allowing an opportunity to represent a Premier Club” said Cricket Victoria's Talent Development Specialist - Cassie Brock.
For the past two years, the competition has been an Under 18 competition and won on both occasions by Melbourne Cricket Club.
This year, the competition will be played as an Under 15 competition, replacing the old Youth Premier League competition and designed to streamline the climb from the underage ranks to the state’s representative squads.
Brock added, “In preparation for the tournament, Premier Academies have been running throughout the winter with players continuously expanding and developing their skills. We’re eager to see the talent on show and can’t wait to see a tournament filled with development and fun.”
The ten Kookaburra Women’s Premier Cricket clubs will begin the competition from 16 January, playing a mix of one-day and T20 matches. The two highest ranked teams at the end of the scheduled matches will advance to the Grand Final which will be played as a curtain-raiser to the Women’s 1st XI T20 Grand Final on Thursday 25 January.
